About NetLens Pro

Network inspector

NetLens Pro is a native desktop menu-bar utility that shows how many bytes this device downloads and uploads—privately, clearly, and without an account.

See how your computer uses the internet without your data being shared with a third-party account system. There is no sign-in, no developer server, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDK. Usage records stay on this computer unless you explicitly export a CSV to a location you choose.

How it works

NetLens Pro reads the public cumulative byte counters the operating system exposes for the active physical interface. It records only the difference between samples, then discards the raw readings. Loopback, bridge, peer-to-peer, and other virtual interfaces are excluded by default so totals are not double-counted. Normal network protocol overhead may be included in the physical-interface total; traffic contents are never inspected.

People who want a calm, local meter for this computer—not a whole-home router tool, not a packet inspector, and not a per-app monitoring panel. Ideal for metered connections, personal hotspots, or anyone who wants reliable local usage history for this device.

What it does not do

NetLens Pro does not identify applications, websites, DNS, or IP addresses. It does not measure other devices on your network. It cannot reconstruct usage while the app is closed or paused. Provider bills may differ because they use different boundaries and rules.

NetLens Pro measures changes in macOS cumulative byte counters for this Mac’s active physical network interface and stores aggregate usage locally. It never inspects traffic content and does not identify apps, websites, DNS, IP addresses, packets, requests, headers, or bodies. Optional location access is used only to obtain the current Wi-Fi network name, not coordinates. There is no NetLens account, developer server, advertising, analytics, tracking, or subscription in the current version.

Common questions

What does NetLens Pro measure?

It samples the public cumulative byte counters macOS exposes for the active physical interface, records only differences between samples, and discards the raw readings. Physical-interface totals can include protocol overhead. NetLens Pro does not identify apps, sites, devices, DNS, IP addresses, packets, requests, headers, bodies, or traffic content, and it cannot reconstruct usage while closed or paused.

Why is a Wi-Fi network shown as Unidentified?

Tracking does not need location. macOS requires Location permission only if you ask NetLens Pro to read the current Wi-Fi network name. Grant access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, or keep it denied and use Unidentified Wi-Fi. NetLens Pro does not request or store coordinates or scan nearby networks.

Why do totals differ from my provider or router?

NetLens Pro measures only this Mac and only confirmed observation time while tracking is active. A provider or router can count other devices, different time boundaries, protocol overhead, retries, rounding, roaming, or billing rules. Pauses, sleep, and closed-app periods are not estimated. Treat NetLens Pro as a local aid, not an authoritative bill or whole-network meter.

How do I export or delete data?

CSV export is created only when you request it and omits network names unless you choose to include them. Review and protect the file. Settings > Privacy & Data > Delete Everything removes usage history, network names, alert rules, and insights but retains ordinary app settings; exported CSV files remain at their destinations. History retention can be configured, while profile lifetime totals can survive history pruning until Delete Everything.

Who handles App Store billing or refund requests?

NetLens Pro is paid up front with no subscription or in-app purchase in the reviewed version. Apple processes the purchase and eligible refund requests and does not provide Brent with your full payment-card details. Use Apple’s Report a Problem service or Apple Support for billing.
