Common questions

How many vaults does NightKeep manage?

The reviewed implementation manages one local vault per installation or device. Older DecoyVault data from a previous build is deliberately left untouched and is not managed as a current decoy vault. Do not rely on old decoy controls or an Erase Both Vaults action.

What happens if I forget the password?

Use the locked-screen recovery flow only if you have a valid recovery key or drive. Biometrics are an optional local unlock aid, not a separate backup of the password. If recovery is unavailable and the build permits erasure, choose Erase App and Start Over and type ERASE. This clears current app-vault data but cannot erase external exports, backups, recovery artifacts, screenshots, operating-system copies, or preserved legacy DecoyVault data.

Does importing remove my original file?

Normally no. NightKeep copies an imported item into the vault. If you explicitly choose Remove Originals, it verifies the imported copy before requesting deletion of the matching source, but storage and operating-system failures are still possible. Confirm the vault item and keep another backup before removing an irreplaceable original.

How do trash and permanent deletion work?

Items in NightKeep Trash remain encrypted and recoverable until you permanently delete them or empty Trash. Permanent deletion removes the app-managed vault object, but flash storage, APFS snapshots, backups, caches, exports, recovery media, screenshots, or recipient copies can prevent a guarantee of forensic erasure. Delete those copies separately.

Who handles App Store billing or refund requests?

Apple processes App Store purchases and eligible refund requests and does not provide NightKeep with your full payment-card details. Use Apple’s Report a Problem service or Apple Support for billing; contact NightKeep support for app behavior.
